Not a Mother Not a Virgin

My brain has been wadding in murky waters lately, getting stuck on a few cross-cultural conversations I’ve had that were pregnant with the implication that a woman’s worth to society is mainly as a MOTHER and somewhat as a wife. Now don’t get me wrong, most of these conversations have been fruitful and very interesting, but man is there ever alot of work to be done for gender equality.

This gouache painting is mainly a satirical response to this confrontation, like the water that would have rolled off a duck’s back. Despite our anatomy, women are not empty voids to be filled. I feel as full as any human being, thank you very much, and am complete as I am, standing alongside friends, family, collegues and the lovers I choose.
